Bootleg Canyon’s St. Patty’s Day Feast

KHS Race Banner

Bootleg Canyon was a windy, snowy ice box over the St. Patty’s Day weekend. Temperatures dropped 35 degrees from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning giving us a sharp reminder that winter had not left just yet. I am starting to think that the wind and the rain follows us everywhere we go, no matter where we are on the mountain bike racing circuit!

Racing at Bootleg Canyon always feels so good to me no matter what the conditions are. It’s high speed, rough, exposed and unforgiving at the best of times, and like I have mentioned before, KHS does all its dirt jump and gravity testing in Bootleg Canyon’s Mountain Bike Park year round.

Of course, just as soon as all was said and done the winds died down, the skies opened up and everything was beautiful…something I have gotten used to whilst racing across this wonderful land. The KHS Team owned the podium at this event, we took home wins in the Men’s Pro, Women’s Pro and the Men’s Semi Pro (and almost all the prize money). I also won an extra $500 for the fastest run of the day…just in time for taxes! It was a proud day for KHS Factory Racing!

New recruit Logan Binggeli did not make it to this race. He is still nursing a broken hand in order to make a strong comeback at the Fontana National in Southridge Park later this month. Binggeli did however host a training camp at Woodward West this past weekend, along with Carter Holland of Black Market Bikes.

Melissa on top of the podium again in what is still a very young 2008 season. Melissa ran a fantastic time of 04:45:78 which would have given her the win in the Vet Pro class, a very impressive run for Buhl.

KHS B Team rider Scott Johnson defended his win from the previous Bootleg Canyon race in February and got on top the podium again in an impressive performance. Johnson also won the Super D on Saturday in what were some very windy conditions.

Chuck Valenzuela who is consistently on the podium for KHS in the Vet Pro Class just missed getting on the wood with a 4th place finish and a time of 05:00:35. The podiums only went three deep at this event, making it just that much tougher to get a podium place.

The “KHS Crew” will be back in Fontana in two weeks for the first Gravity National of 2008. We anticipate more podiums and great results. Please stay tuned for more race updates and pictures as they become available.

All the best,

Southridge Winter Series Finals

Hey, if you have a better way to transport your KHS bike through the LA traffic, I want to know about it. OK maybe he could be riding a Yamaha! As always, Fontana brings out all kinds of people to join in the fun… and fun is always a major factor at a Southridge event. This was the FINALS of the Southridge Winter Series presented by SHIMANO. It looked like a mini National in the pit area…if there is such as thing?

EC’s New Clothing line is doing well in FONTUCKY!

In a flawless performance Saturday afternoon Dale Holmes out-gated everybody in the biggest 4X field at a Southridge Winter Series Race ever. Holmes was untouchable out the gate even amongst some of the best in the World…who always show up to what has to be Southern California’s best race attraction. It is a testament to Holmes and his training ethic…this guy is an animal!

This really has Dale primed for the upcoming National in Fontana later this month. KHS is HUNGRY for this win!

Young KHS recruit Logan Binggeli showed up with a broken hand to compete in the 4X only just to salvage some overall points. He was obviously tentative out the gate but still showed composure and road like a true pro. Logan ended up with a 3rd place finish in the overall standings for the 4X.

Binggeli should be close to a hundred percent healed up for the Fontana National, and when teamed up with Holmes this should make the KHS 4X package tough to beat.

As unpredictable as always, Sunday morning had winds in the 30-40mph range just in time to make the alley more of a challenge. It all depended on if you got a headwind or a tailwind as to whether you had a good time or an average one.
