Whiteface 5K Downhill – 2010 Pro GRT Finals

Report by: Quinton Spaulding

The KHS Factory Team was at Whiteface Mountain in Wilmington, NY for the Finals of the Pro GRT this past weekend.

Jeremiah Dylan Dean was there to present the awards for the overall results, besides managing his team and taking care of their equipment. Needless to say, he is “a man of many hats”!

We arrived on Tuesday evening, and were so amped and ready to go!

Unfortunately, the Gondola only opened on Friday so we had very little to do with our time.

We decided to hike the track on the Wednesday. This 5K Downhill track had some real tricky loose sections,  and besides being long, it was packed full of pedaling.

Whiteface is HUGE, this mountain certainly has potential!

Practice went well for the guys. Heath showed a lot of pace during qualifying and still had power to spare.

Heath gaps the river during practice, and yes, this course was long enough to include a natural river as a feature.

The pits were a little quiet but the riders that were present, still packed a HUGE punch.

Logan and Chris heading to the top for their FINAL runs.

GO TIME! Heath heading off for his race start.

The sun shone briefly on the Sunday.

Left to right: Waylon Smith (Nema), Andrew Neethling (Trek World Racing), Justin Leov (Trek World Racing), Nico Mulally (Trek World Racing), Chris Heath (KHS Factory)

Heath pulled out all the stops to make it to 4th place on the podium. Another “TOP SHELF” podium for KHS! Binggeli had a rougher weekend than normal with a few big crashes during training…he ended up 15th on the day.

Somewhere over Kansas!

West Coast!!

Back in Vegas just in time for the 2010 Inter-Bike Show. Dirt demo begins on Monday September 20th, so if you’re going to be there, please stop by and say Hi.

All the best,

Windham World Cup Finals 2010

Our pits at Windham were comfortable… just a stones throw away from the lift and our accommodation.

Wednesday came round and the whole pit area was set up. This brought back memories of the good old days when racing in the United States was huge… hopefully we are headed back in that direction!

Recently inducted into the Mountain Bike Hall of Fame, was Kenda’s very own, Jim Wannamaker… working his butt off as usual.

The Team remained focused all week. The objective was to make the “big show” in the 4X on Saturday evening as well as the DH on Sunday.

Chris Heath did a great job of representing KHS, he qualified 53rd and finished 71st. Just to qualify for a World Cup Downhill race takes significant training and dedication.

The UCI World Cup will be back in Windham NY next year, and so too will KHS Factory Racing.
